Luxury Properties: Houses, Villas & Flats for sale in Benidorm, Spain
Some people love it, some don´t. Benidorm is the tourist capital of the coast and is also known as the Manhattan of the Costa Blanca.
The town lies at the foot of the Sierra de Aitana, in a south-facing bay sheltered by medium-high mountains. Originally a simple, small fishing village, the city has experienced an incredible amount of development since the 1960s. Its high-rise buildings create an impressive sky line. The city bustles throughout the year. During the summer months, Benidorms population rises to over half a million, with holidaymakers from every land imaginable. An extensive range of leisure and sports activities, shops and restaurants have made Benidorm famous for its fun and entertainment.
Its eastern beach, the Playa de Levante, stretches over 2 km from the rocky promontory La Castell to the high edge of the Sierra Helada with its Rincón de Loix. The western half of the beach extends another 2 km between La Castell and the rocky headland Montbenidorm, where the La Cala neighbourhood spreads along a third, smaller bay.
Also a part of Benidorm is the uninhabited island of Benidorm, a rocky cliff jutting out of the sea 4 km from the shore. This island is also called the Cuchillada de Roldán, because, according to legend, the hero Roland cleaved the cliff from the side of the surrounding mountains with his sword. Benidorm has high-rises with thousands of flats and apartments, most with views of the beach.
